5 Ways to Make Your Own Alphabet Magnets

If you’re looking for a set of alphabet magnets to participate in #AlphabetMagnetDay or to get your font on all year long, there are some great companies that sell them. But if you’re feeling crafty, we love the option to make a set of your own! Making your own alphabet magnets is a chance to get creative and take pride in something you made, but it also allows you to customize the style to your personal decor.

We’ve rounded up five unique ways to DIY your own alphabet magnets. We can’t wait to see your homemade creations on display on May 9th and beyond!

Resin Alphabet Magnets from The Handmade Home

First up, we love these DIY resin alphabet magnets. Our preteen selves would love the glittery style (let’s be honest, our adult selves do too!). All you’ll need is a resin kit, letter mold, magnets, and a few other supplies that you probably have around the house already. Mix the resin according to the instructions, add your filler, and pour into your molds. You’ll want to let your letters sit undisturbed for 24 hours before they’re ready to take out of the molds, glue magnets to the back, and stick them to your fridge or other magnetic surface. Use them to spell inspirational words, funny saying, and to show off your sparkly personality!

Fabric DIY Alphabet Magnets from Hello Bee

How cute are these fabric alphabet magnets? While we think all ages will love them, they’re particularly wonderful for little hands! No sharp edges and they don’t break when they drop (yay, parenting wins!). We know the small ones in our life would love how soft and colorful they are. You’ll need assorted felt colors, assorted embroidery thread, letter templates, craft needles, polyfiller, and magnets. Trace and cut out the letters, glue magnets in place, then blanket stitch your letters together, adding polyfiller as you go. Easy peazy!

We love these for showing children how to spell their names, simple words, or just helping them to recognize letters and sounds!

DIY Clay Alphabet Magnets from Handmade Charlotte

These clay magnets are so simple! And we love their modern, bold look! All you’ll need to make them is polymer clay, alphabet cookie cutters, glass baking pan, rolling pin, magnets, and glue. Knead the clay, roll it out, and cut out your letters. Put the letters in the baking dish and bake them according to the instructions on the package. Once they’ve cooled and hardened, glue on your magnets. And voila! You have your own set of magnets in any colors you choose!

Plus, if you want to get extra crafty, we bet you could add glitter, flowers, googly eyes, paint, or other fun items to customize them to your style!

Flat Alphabet Magnets from Spoonflower

These flat alphabet magnets are made from wallpaper stuck onto a sheet magnet, making them durable without taking up much room! Plus, the letter design is beautiful, making these the perfect choice for professional designs and font nerds everywhere. All you’ll need is Advent Alphabet wallpaper, scissors, magnet sheets, and a plastic squeegee (or credit card). Peel the wallpaper, stick it to the magnet sheet, squeegee out any air bubbles, and cut out your letters.

An alternative idea would be to design and draw (or print) your own letters! Pro tip: print them onto sticker paper for easy attachment to the magnets!

Chunky DIY Wooden Magnet Letters from Arts & Crackers

We think these chunky wooden magnet letters are amazing for little hands and learning purposes. Plus, they’re so pretty that they’ll add to the cool factor of your home. Gather your supplies, including a set of wooden letters, magnetic strips, glue, and nail polish or paint. Glue magnets onto your letters and then paint a stripe of nail polish or paint along the bottom of each letter. We love the suggestion to use one color for vowels and another for consonants. Stick them to your fridge, chalkboard, or other magnetic surface and get to spelling!
